Adams Street Sidewalk & Intersection Improvements

HWC provided inspection for the sidewalk and intersection improvement project along Adams Street from Patterson to Kirkwood in Bloomington, Indiana.

This .21-mile project allows for safer pedestrian and bicycle travel along this corridor with the installation of planters and other deterrents to protect pedestrians.

The project was constructed in four phases to ensure commuter access was maintained throughout construction.

Other work elements included construction of a new sidewalk, installation of a modular block wall, traffic signal modifications at the Adams and Kirkwood intersection, and geometric modifications to accommodate the new bike lanes.

Construction on the project was completed in September of 2020. This project was fully funded by the City of Bloomington at a cost of $1.3 million.

Indianapolis, IN

Resurfacing & Related Items in Marion County Area #1

HWC was responsible for inspection services of the Resurfacing in Marion County Sector 1 project in Indianapolis, Indiana. A total of 33 individual street sections were included in this package.

Project work included replacement of portions of existing curb and gutter, sidewalk, and ADA ramps as well as addition of new sidewalk sections to connect existing to future trails, both asphalt and PCCP base repair, roadway mill and resurface, new and revised sections of pavement markings and areas of full roadway reconstruction.

The project was funded by Indianapolis Department of Public Works for approximately $4.0 million.

Winthrop Avenue

The goal of the Indianapolis DPW – Winthrop Avenue project was to transform the existing street into a new streetscape-style project for local residents and businesses. 

Scope included removal and replacement of existing concrete curbs, sidewalk, ramps, drives and milling, patching, and roadway resurfacing. The project also included updates to the storm sewer system and new inlet and storm pipe installation. The contractor installed a decorative lighting conduit so the neighborhood association could purchase future streetlights to beautify the area. 

This $630,000 project was funded by the City of Indianapolis. 

Bethlehem, IN

Nugent Sand & Gravel

HWC was responsible for the inspection of the construction of the 0.665-miles-long Camp Creek, Bethlehem Road in Bethlehem, Indiana.

The route is a new segment of road that connects Camp Creek Road to Bethlehem Road. The road will allow Nugent Sand & Gravel to expand their operations in future years by shifting traffic around their property. At the completion of this project, Camp Creek, Bethlehem Road was turned over to Clark County and open to through-traffic.

The project included clearing the fields and wooded areas within the proposed right-of-way, excavating an existing dirt stockpile, installing drainage culverts and ditches, constructing embankments and side slopes, building and paving the roadway, and installing guardrail, pavement markings, and signage. A four-sided concrete box culvert was also installed at the creek crossing near Bethlehem Road.

The road was completed in the summer of 2020. This project was privately funded by Nugent Sand & Gravel at a cost of $1.3 million.
